About Figurd

"FIGURD" is the rebranded name from our Patented Math Games, Albert's Insomnia.

HOW THIS ALL CAME ABOUT

Albert’s Insomnia was named after my great grandfather Albert. When Albert was 19 years old, he immigrated to the United States of America. He couldn’t afford the ticket to travel here from Europe, so Albert worked his way to the United States on a cargo ship named The SS Shepherd.

Albert had all kinds of jobs during his many days and nights on that loud, noisy ship. It was a long and sometimes boring trip, and he worked hard to keep himself busy. He wished he could help make the engines quieter for Cappy the captain and the crew and finally came up with an idea. He drew it out right away, so he wouldn’t forget, on the scrap paper he kept by his bed.

The next morning when Cappy stepped on deck, Albert was working on the smoke stacks, making the final touches to his mufflers. They could actually hear the seagulls, and the waves lapping against the ship’s hull. It worked! Albert's invention actually worked!

Years later, after hearing this story and staying awake at night thinking about it, young Ricky came up with his own invention. Counting sheep to fall asleep using the numbrs on his alarm clock. He turned it into a game that stuck with him for life and finally became Albert’s Insomnia card game below and Figurd which you can play here.

Our Goal is to blur the lines between Work and Play, turning drudgery into fun. Our users achieve mastery without memorization. We plan to develop a nationwide math contest to serve as a numeracy initiative much like spelling bees were successfully used as a literacy initiative 100 years ago and still going strong.
