Math Ed consultant's testimonial from trial card games under trial label
I am the creator of the Tabor Rotation Framework and an advocate for doing what is best for ALL students at ALL levels EVERY day. One of the tools I recommend for every math classroom is the game Albert's Insomnia. Albert's Insomnia is one of the most fun and engaging ways that students can learn and practice their basic facts. The game is automatically differentiated since the players can use 2 cards, all 4 cards, and any operation. In fact, Algebra II students use parentheses, integers, squared numbers, cubed numbers, square roots, and cubed roots to find the answers.
Since the game is so engaging to students of all levels I use Albert's Insomnia at every single one of my trainings. A deck of Albert's Insomnia cards is always in my bag of materials and usually ends up staying with a grade level who simply cannot wait to put it into place in one of their Tabor Rotation Stations. A teacher can begin using a Tabor Rotation Game Station immediately simply by putting the Albert's Insomnia Game into the Games Station. The recording sheet for Albert's Insomnia is an excellent tool for teacher review of a student's knowledge of basic facts, order of operation, and computational proficiency.
During one week of on-site trainings with schools I observed the power of Albert's Insomnia in 8th, 4th, and 2nd grade groups of students. I can truly say that I have been a witness to this game changing the lives of students as they learn basic facts in a fun, engaging, and challenging way.
Hmmm...which would you choose to have fun and learn at the same time...flashcards or Albert's Insomnia? Tabor Teachers and students choose Albert's Insomnia every time!
